The Carriage House was constructed in 1989-1990, and has a back porch with table and chairs overlooking the beautiful grounds. There are four Superior Suite rooms in this building. There are two patios overlooking the Croquet Court.

This room is named for a battle General Quitman fought in during the Mexica-American War. When the Mexican-American War broke out, Quitman went as a major general and led his troops on a charge through the Belan Gate and Mexico City, and then on an assault of Chapultepec Castle. General Quitman commanded the southern assault during the Battle of Chapultepec and received the surrender of the citadel within Mexico City.

The Battle of Veracruz was a 20-day siege of the key Mexican beachhead seaport of Veracruz, during the Mexican-American War. Lasting from March 9–29, 1847, it began with the first large-scale amphibious assault conducted by United States military forces, and ended with the surrender and occupation of the city. U.S. forces then marched inland to Mexico City. General Quitman was sent to join Winfield Scott’s expedition after the Battle of Monterrey and led the 2nd Brigade in the Volunteer Division at the Siege of Veracruz.

The Battle of Monterrey took place during the Mexican-American War, wherein General Pedro de Ampudia and the Mexican Army of the North was defeated by the Army of Occupation, a force of United States Regulars, Volunteers and Texas Rangers under the command of General Zachary Taylor. Quitman fought in this battle with the rank of Brigadier General of Volunteers and commanded a brigade under General Taylor.

This room is named after a battle that Quitman fought in during the Mexican-American war. When the Mexican-American War broke out, Quitman went as a major general and led his troops on a charge through the Belan Gate and Mexico City, and then on an assault of Chapultepec Castle. Later, Quitman named one of his plantations Belen after this battle. Belen Plantation was located on Bee Lake near the Yazoo River, in Holmes County, Mississippi, which Quitman did not develop into a plantation until the mid-1850’s.
